# How to Build a Private, Source-Grounded AI Research Workflow

AI research is fast, but speed is only useful when you can inspect the evidence, reproduce the reasoning, and keep sensitive material within appropriate boundaries. A source-grounded workflow does not require blind trust in an answer.

## Define the question and evidence threshold

Start with a narrowly defined question and what would count as a satisfactory answer. For competitive research, for example, distinguish first-party product documentation, independent reports, and informal opinions.

Capture the scope of the question, the decision it informs, and the deadline. This prevents an assistant from collecting a large volume of loosely relevant text without making progress.

## Collect and retain primary sources

Save original documents or source references before writing a synthesis. Keep publication dates and retrieval dates separate. Record the exact statement that supports each material claim.

Phasoric's repository describes capture, research, and knowledge-management capabilities, including local-first notes and source-oriented intelligence. Features and integration availability should still be verified against the current deployed environment before using them in a sensitive process.

## Distinguish facts, inferences, and unknowns

Organize findings into directly supported claims, interpretations, and unanswered questions. A market-size estimate may be a calculation or an assumption rather than an established fact. Label it accordingly.

When sources disagree, preserve both perspectives and explain what additional evidence would resolve the conflict. Do not compress disagreement into a single fabricated consensus.

## Build a reviewable conclusion

A useful research deliverable includes an executive answer, supporting source list, critical assumptions, competing explanations, and recommended next verification steps. High-stakes claims should have traceable citations to primary evidence.

If an agent proposes follow-up action, keep that action separate from the research conclusion. Human approval matters when the output affects customers, money, or external systems.

## Protect information intentionally

Determine which source materials may leave the local environment, which remote models or services are permitted, and which collaborators may see the outcome. Local processing of some operations is not the same as an entirely offline research pipeline.

Finally, set a review date. Research is not a permanent snapshot of truth; it is a decision aid anchored to the best evidence available at a specific time.
